The Carlton Printing Company, which a prominent racing and trotting journalist, Mr Karl Scott, established in Christchurch 25 years ago, is to sell up and disband. The company has been responsible for the publication of the “New Zealand Trotting Calendar,” under the managing editorship of Mr Scott.

The “Trotting Calendar” has been taken over by A. B. D. Clark, Ltd (Wellington) a subsidiary of the Wellington Publishing Company. Ltd. The “Trotting Calendar” will be published only twice more by the Carlton Printing Company, the company hav-

ing advertised its entire printing plant for sale as a going concern. The company relied almost entirely on the production of the "Trotting Calendar” and the "New Zealand Trotting Register” for its operation. The company had the right from the New Zealand Trotting Conference to publish the "Trotting Calendar.” The withdrawal of the paper is the end of journalism for Mr Scott, who. has been in this occupation for 46 years. He was appointed trotting writer for the Christchurch “Sun” in 1928, and was also racu> B and trotting editor for the “New Zealand Referee” for five years, before becoming racing and trotting editor of the “EveningrPost” sports edition. Mr Scott became editor and publisher of the “Trotting Calendar” in 1939, and has held the post since then.

Mr Scott was also judge for about 10 years for several racing and trotting clubs. These included the Canterbury Jockey Club, the Wellington Racing Club, the Christchurch Hunt Club, and the Canterbury Park, New Brighton, and Ashburton trotting clubs. Mr Scott is the author of two books, “Pillars of Hamess Horsedom” and “Turf Tufts and Toe Weights.” He will stay in Canterbury and will take up farming.
