Car alight in Square

A car caught fire among heavy traffic in Cathedral Square, outside the Post Office, at 4.25 pjn. yesterday. Quick action by a traffic officer saved the flames from spreading further than the engine and causing possible injury to the car’s driver and those who came to his assistance. The officer used a portable extinguisher from his car to quench the flames. One appliance and the emergency tender from headquarters were called, but the fire was out before they arrived. There was little disruption to traffic. The driver of the car was Rodney Spencer Pendlington, of 81 Champion Street. He was not injured.
