Students’ assets

More than $366,000 is held in fixed assets bv the University of Canterbury Students’ Association and another $35,703 has been invested in capital works by the association over the last year.

Cash reserves of $266,669 are held by the association which represents more than 6850 students.

The major fixed assets noted at the association’s annual meeting were, the Ham sports pavilion ($11,352), students contribution to Ham Students* Union extensions ($275,963), students contribution to College Court fiats ($50,000), Students* contribution to Physical Recreation Centre ($7837) and a vehicle for the student afforestation scheme ($2199). Over the last year the Students* Association invested $BOOO in a special afforestation project at Mount Hutt, near Methven, and $27,000 as half share in University Bookshop (Canterbury), Ltd. The development of the afforestation project was referred to by the past president of the association (Mr D. F. Caygill), as one of the most forward looking steps taken by students in support of the welfare of future generations of students.
