FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A slow-moving anticyclone extends over New Zealand, and a moist northwest airstream is increasing over the south of the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast— Warm north-westerlies becoming strong in some inland areas; moderate north-easterlies predominating about the coast; scattered rain in the Alps and some heavy falls developing south of Mount Cook; elsewhere fine but cloud increasing. Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate northerlies: mainly cloudy and mild; occasional light rain or drizzle, mostly south of Hokitika. Nelson and Marlborough except the Kaikoura Coast.—Light to moderate winds from the northerly quarter; some low cloud at first, otherwise fine, mild and warm. Ooutlook.—Rain in and west of the Alps and in the west of Nelson; mainly fair elsewhere.
