Beaumont, Rangiora hopes go well

Menuetto, Sliderule, Annenlc, and Mountain Lion, which are engaged st Beaumont on Saturday, showed up in their work at Wlngatvl yesterday while North Canterbury candidates in Funny Way and El Shub . shewed their fitness ter the first leg of the double at Rangiora. Conditions were IdeaL The serious work was held on the outside of the course proper, which was fast Menuetto and her stablemate Watalian are unlikely to fulfil their engagements at Beaumont on Saturday. Their trainer, B. J. Anderton, said that Watalaln had had a hard race at Oamaru on Monday, and he may be reserved for the Easter -facing. If the track at Riccarton remained hard, it was likely that the Bellborough gelding would go to Riverton. Menuetto, the top-weight with 8-10, has drawn the outside of a capacity field in the sprint Funny Way gave his stablemate Longsllp three lengths start and was galloping well to finish on terms at the end of six furlongs in Imln 19 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 39 1-Ssec. It was a sound performance on the part, of Funny Way, which will be ridden by his trainer, J. Dowling, in the President’s Handicap. Over the same ground El Shub and Annenlc were together in Imin 19 4-ssec. the last three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Both horses were doing their work nicely. Menuetto and Mountain Lion ran a smart five furlongs in Imln 5 4-ssec, the last three in 39 2-ssec. Mountain Lion appeared none the worse for his fall in the hurdle race at the Birchwood Hunt meeting on Saturday. Sliderule had the edge on Kurcharre in Imln 6 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. Sliderule is coming along nicely in a fresh preparation, and may
been seen in action at the Riccarton Easter meeting. Jemma and Sea. Rover were too good for Daroju over half a mile in 52 2-ssec, the opening furlong in 13sec.
