Sharda out

“The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND.

The $12,000 first prize in the Stars Travel Invitation Stakes at Tauranga on Saturday is becoming easier to win by the day. Yesterday Sharda became the third scratching, leaving a field of 10.

His trainer, C. Bowry, told the Bay of Plenty Racing Club secretary (Mr D. G. Hancock) that the soreness which caused Sharda to miss the first day of the Manawatu meeting had not eased.

Bowry arrived at Tauranga yesterday with his other Stars Travel runner, Topsy. Rich Return, which galloped at Hawera yesterday, and Game are due to arrive at Tauranga today. Already on the course is Count Kereru, an early favourite foi the Easter Trial.

Stars Travel, Ltd, will make a presentation to the owners of Game, Mr and Mrs T. C. Lowry, in recognition of the eight-year-old’s contribution to the race. Game already has contested the event twice for a first in 1970 and a second last year. The award will be a book on Australian and New Zealand thoroughbred bloodlines in a special container and is worth more than $lOO.
