(N.Z. Preus Association)

WELLINGTON, March 7.

Exports of forest products could be considerably increased immediately without incurring any shortage in wood resources if a new national planting target of 70,000 acres a year were adopted, according to a new national forestry planning model prepared by the forest economics division of the New Zealand Forest Service to present to the forthcoming National Development Conference.

The model replaces the i 1969 national planning mode) I based on a planting target of ‘52,000 acres a year. I A much-improved future I for New Zealand’s wood sup- | ply is shown in the new planning model. Exotic roundwood production is expected to increase from 274 million cubic feet a ! year during 1971-75, to 564 i million cubic feet a year by | the end of the century.
