Long-distance canoeing

The Arawa Canoe Club held i its annual Rothmans longdistance race on the irrigation canal at Methven on Saturday. Conditions were very- warm, and the strong north-west wind caused three canoeists to capsize during the event. Results were:—

R. Goodwillie (Christchurch Canoe Club), SOmin 20.0 sec. 1; P. Barr (Arawa Canoe Club). 82:35.0, 2; C. Cook (Arawa), 80:15.0, 3; M. Adams (Arawa), 95:50.0, 4; D. McLeod (Christchurch), 99:05.0, 5; D. Speirs (Christchurch), 99:10.0, 6; P. Whittman (Christchurch), 98:30 0 7. Fastest times: Cook 1, R. Goodwillie 2, P. Barr 3.
