Oxford cattle sale
Values were much on a par with last year’s rates when the annual store cattle sale was held at the Oxford saleyards last Week. The yarding of 470 head consisted of 186 adult cattle and 284 calves. Most of the yarding was purchased for outside districts, some cattle going as far as Southland, and others to the West Coast. One of the principal sales of young cattle comprised two pens of Hereford-Friesian cross heifers, mated to a Hereford bull, at $ll5 to $l3O. Empty Angus cross heifers ranged from $73 to $79.
Sales of 18 and 20-month-old steers included Hereford-Friesian cross steers at $lOB to $llB, Hereford steers at $lll, Friesian steers at $9O to $lOO, and Angus steers at $9O.
Angus steer calves sold from $57 to $73.50, heifers of similar breeding from $64 to $67.50, Angus-Friesian cross steers to $7O, similar-type heifers at $67, Friesian steers $59 to $7O, black and white heifers $66. FriesianShorthorn steers $72, and Friesian-Hereford cross steers $5O to $6B.
The selling agent was the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association.
