Canterbury tennis team beats North Otago

A Canterbury representative tennis team beat North Otago by 20 matches to 4 at Oamaru on Sunday. The Canterbury team was selected from outside the top players, some of whom were playing in Wilding Shield and Nunneley Casket, and it was significant that among the four matches North Otago won were the two top singles.

Results:— Men’s singles.—D. Haworth lost to M. Elliott, 4-6, 7-9; T. Mooney beat D. McMaster, 6-3, 6-4; T. Ralfe beat A. Knight, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0; B. Morrison beat G. McIntyre, 6-1, 6-0; S. Burns beat O. Jones, 6-2, 4-6. 6-2; R. Avery lest to M. McCone, 10-8, 4-6, 2-6.

Women’s singles.—Miss P. Bamford lost to Miss B. Borrie, 3-6, 3-6; Miss S. Moore beat Miss J. Willetts, 6-2, 6-0; Miss C. Ralfe beat Miss P. Eckhardt, 6-0, 6-0; Miss G. Iredale beat Mrs G. Pringle. 6-1, 4-6, 6-3; Miss P. James beat Mrs N. Wilson, 6-3,

6-2; Miss E. Smith beat Mrs M. Malcolm, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.
