Rise in building permit issues
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. Building permits worth $41.9m were issued in December, 1971, compared with $37.9m in December, 1970, according to the Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin). For the year ended December, 1971, permits for buildings were issued to the value of $536.4m, compared with $485.3m, for the year ended December,- 1970. Mr Lewin said that permits for 1876 new houses and flats, with an aggregate value of $19.7m, were issued in December, compared with 1656 permits with a value of $15.7m in December, 1970. For the year ended December, 1971, permits were taken out for 23,796 new houses and flats, compared with 23,667 for the previous year. “In these two years the proportion of numbers of
permits issued for flats increased from 30.0 per cent to 35.1 per cent of all dwelling 1 permits issued,” Mr Lewin i said. 1 For new buildings other , than houses and flats, per- - mits to the value of $14.3m . were issued in December, 1971 ($11.7m in December, . 1970). For additions and altera- ! tions to buildings other than I houses and flats, permits • worth $4.5m were issued in December, 1971 ($7.3m in ; December 1970). I He said that 2064 new s dwellings were completed i during December, 1971 (1760 r in December, 1970). According to notifications received, 148 dwellings were ■ demolished in December, i 1971 (208 in December, i 1970). i Thirty-two additional dwel- . ling units were created by s conversion during December, ’ 1971 (42 in December, 1970).
