RIVAL TO DIXON

Rugby back selector Another rival for Mr M. J. Dixon as the Canterbury Rugby back selector emerged yesterday when the Linwood club nominated Mr L. P. Foster, a member of the Canterbury Colts’ panel since 1965. A former half-back for Wairarapa and North Island Services, Mr Foster is known chiefly in Rugby circles for his success as coach of the Linwood senior side between 1959 and 1964.

During this period the team won the championship outright once and shared it with Christchurch on another occasion. It was usually in the top group in the other seasons during the “Foster period.”

A shrewd judge of a footballer, Mr Foster has played a notable part in the production of attacking Rugby by Canterbury colts’ teams of recent years.
