The Government had approved a special grant of $5OOO to the Pipes and Drums of Innes Tartan to help it to compete overseas in August and September, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet). today. The Auckland band is New Zealand A grade champion. It will compete at the world Scottish championships at Edinburgh, the inter-continen- i tai championships at Toronto | and the Pacific Coast of Ajnerica championships at San Francisco. Mr Highet said that Government policv usually was to make grants for overseas tours only when the members had been selected nationally. .An exception was made in this case because, in view of the time required to establish a truly integrated ensemble, it was T not considered practicable to select (players from different pipe i bands. __
