Townsend, of England, won the $4OOO international open tournament at the Los Lagartos Golf Club, firing ini a six-under-par 66 in the final ■ round. Townsend finished the 72-1 hole tournament on the 18hole, 7046-yard course in 274 strokes—l 4 under par. G. Borek (United States) was second, with a four-day total of 278. R. de Vicenzo (Argentina), and A. Bohorquez (Colombia) were tied for third with 280 strokes.

De Vicenzo, leading the tournament since the second day, was nine strokes behind Townsend in the final round. Townsend, who trailed de Vicenzo by three strokes at the start of the final round, blazed to Victory on seven birdies and only had trouble on two holes. Australia’s D. Graham finished in seventh place for a prize of $430. His score was 290 after rounds of 72, 74, 70 and 74.
