(N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Four Australian women athletes — Misses R. Boyle and J. Orr, and Mesdames P. Ryan and J. Pollock—had a record-breaking night at the Rothmans international track and field meeting at Mount Smart Stadium. They lowered even further the New Zealand marks which were established at the Porritt Stadium track in Hamilton last Saturday. Mrs Ryan started the ball rolling in the 100 metres hurdles, with the competitive spur offered by the New Zealand record-holder. Miss B. Mathews, of Auckland. Miss Mathews matched

Mrs Ryan almost stride for stride until the last two flights of hurdles, when Mrs Ryan shot ahead and recorded 13.3 sec for a new national record. Miss Matthews equalled the previous time of 13.9 sec. Miss Boyle, in the 100 metres, equalled the record of 11.4 sec established at Hamilton, with Mrs Ryan second in 11.7 sec, and the young Auckland athlete, Miss

L. Watkin, third in her personal best time of 11.8 sec. Miss Orr, who recently turned 17, was alone over the final 1100 metres of the 1500 metres event, yet still reduced her own week-old record from 4mln 21.5scec to 4mln 15.7aec.

This was only five seconds short of the world record held by J. Jehlieova. of Czechoslovakia.

Mrs B. Shimdess (tyanganui) and the 16-year old Miss A. Jarrett (Auckland), were second and third in personal best times of 4mln 24.95ec and 4mln 25.35ec. Miss Boyle had the last say among these outstanding women by lowering the 200 metres record of 23.8 sec she established in Hamilton to 23.25ec. Mrs Ryan was again second, in 24.1 sec and Miss Watkin bad a personal best tine with her third placing in 24.45ec. Mrs Pollock, In a 400 metres race in which she was on her own after 150 metres, was timed at a personal best of 52.35ec. which shattered her own New Zealand all-comers record by o.#sec. _ , T. J. L. Quax, with a final, furious sprint over the last 200 metres, won th« 5000 metres in 13mln 40.5 sec. This was 3.ssec under the Olympic qualifying standard. He won by 40 metres from Tayler (Otago). B. E. Hunter (Otago) was out of a place tn the 800 metres, won by K. Ross (Wanganui) in Imln 49.75ec. The Aucklaid champion. J. Walker, caused the upset of the evening by Mating A. Polhlll and the American, J. van Dyke, for second place, in Imln 50sec. Polhlll did the same time.
