Gas company effluent
The Christchurch Gas, Coal and Coke Company, Ltd, will be prosecuted by the Christchurch Drainage Board for discharges into the stormwater system. The works committee of the board reported last evening that in November the company was required to provide within one month detailed proposals for discharge from its works into the stormwater system and a trade waste application. At the time the board had also referred a matter of a discharge to Bells Creek to its solicitors to institute a prosecution. Some information had been received from the company, but it had not yet provided sufficient detail for useful comment to be made, nor had a trade waste application been made.
The board agreed with its committee that the company should be told that the prosecution was to proceed and that the board proposed to take daily samples of the company’s effluent and if they did not meet requirements legal action would be taken.
Price of property.— The property at the comer of Chapter Street and Papanui Road auctioned on Monday by Livingstone and Company, was sold for $19,500. A report in “The Press” yesterday gave the price incorrectly as $19,000.
