Unit classrooms
The Department of Education has approved a grant of $13,000 for the erection of two unit classrooms at Avonside Girls’ High School. The new rooms will replace the school’s oldest prefabricated I block near the east wing. :Work on the new block will begin soon. Appeal filling Already $123,000 has been ! given or promised to the Outward Bound Trust’s national appeal target of $150,000. The Christchurch committee has raised $11,500; other figures are: Auckland $22,000, Wellington $45,000 (including a $lO,OOO Government grant), Hawke’s Bay $ll,OOO and Dunedin $6OOO. The money will be used to enlarge the school to take courses of 72 by the end of this year. It is hoped to complete the appeal by Easter so that the expansion programme can begin. Further contributions can be notified to the committee chairman, Mr R. C. Webb, 2 Helmores Lane; or to the secretary, Mr J. H. Toshach, P.O. Box 696, Christchurch.
