FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. — A depression over the north central Tasman Sea is moving towards Buller, and an associated frontal system is moving south-east across central and northern New Zealand. An anticyclone south of the South Island is moving east, while a front is slowly moving over Otago. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast: Moderate easterly winds predominating about the coast; rain about the Alps, and some scattered light falls spreading eastwards during the day; mild. Central Marlborough and the Sounds: moderate or fresh north-west winds, strong at times about Cook Strait this morning: cloudy and warm, with some rain, clearing from the west this evening. Nelson: fresh northerlies; cloudy and warm, with rain. Buller and Westland: fresh north-east winds: cloudy and mild, with rain. Outlook: showers on the West Coast; morning cloud and drizzle areas on the east coast.
