Palmer wins pro-am
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. The unattached professional, A. Palmer, won the Greymouth Golf Club’s proam tournament at the weekend with a 36-hole total of 137. One stroke behind, on 138, were W. Logan (Auckland), and S. Owen (Wanganui). The Greymouth club’s captain, A. W. Beck, had the best men’s senior gross score of 142. The intermediate best gross was won by I. Davies, who beat W. Mitchell with a birdie 4 on the first hole of a play-off, and the best junior best gross went to W. Mountford, who beat R. Sail at the 21st play-off. The best net score of 129 (66 and 63) was returned by G. Scully. The special challenge match for women golfers between the North and South Islands was won by the latter by 486 to 495. A feature of this match was the scores of 76 and 77 by Miss C. Sullivan (Christchurch), playing off the men’s tees.
