Taxi-drivers praised

Compliments to a group of Christchurch taxi-drivers who are responsible for the daily transport of more than 300 intellectually handicapped children in Christchurch special classes and schools, were paid by the Canterbury Education Board on Friday. The drivers who man 48 taxis operated by the Blue Star Taxi Company did a “magnificent job,” the board said.

“These men form close personal links with the children, and they are certainly missed if they have to have a day off,” Mr R. A. Gibb said. The chairman of the board (Mr A. S. Murray) said that it restored his faith in human nature to see the manner in which the taxi-drivers handled the children.

“It does them great credit,” he said.
