Girl’s plea changed
I (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 20. i An admission of guilt by one of three children earlier convicted of injuring Wendy Christine Cole on January 30 with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was withdrawn by leave of the Auckland Children’s Court on Friday. A 14-year-old girl, previously convicted, along with a 13-year-old boy and the 16-year-old girl, withdrew her admission when she and the other two appeared for sentence today. She will be charged again on February 24. Mr H. Y. Gilliand, S.M., said that as a result all evidence would be read out again in front of the three children. Speaking to the children’s parents, who were present in court, he said: “I want you to understand what the evidence shows; this is very serious.”
Sergeant J. F. O’Connor said that Miss Cole was now out of hospital and fit to give evidence. The three were remanded in Child Welfare care until February 24 for reappearance.
