Narrow win to Western In a veiA dose match Western beat St Albans I by five runs on the first innings in the the Canterbury Women’s Cricket competition on Saturday. St Albans declared its Innings: closed at tea with nine down for 132, V. McGregor making a •olid 59 not out. K. Marsh, with two for 38, was the best of the Western bowlers, but she was well supported by H. Warren, who took two for 48. H. Warren, batting safely for 97, carried Western to its win with the loss of only seven wickets. T. Prestage (22) made a valuable contribution to the total. A good bowling spell by L. Ashby, who took six for 38, failed to give her side a win. In the other senior match St Albans II gained a comfortable first innings decision against Hagley. Batting first. Hagley was always in trouble and only C. Foote (35) offered any resistance to the St Albans attack. K. Gilary, four for 18, S. Masters, three for 18, and S. Rattray, two for seven, shared the wickets for St Albans.
St Albans quickly passed the Hagley total, mainly through an aggressive innings by A. McKenna, who scored 68 not out of her sides total of 85 for three declared. C. Foote took two wickets for 38.
Hagley fared better in its second Innings, making 44 for two wickets at the close of olay. Rattray taking two for 17. Intermediate grade results. Mia Moa 95 <J Schroder 33: M ' Slave 6749.
