SUBURBAN CRICKET
Sumner (82 points) and Merl-vale-Papanul (76) met in what could be the vital game of the season in the Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association’s senior competition on Saturday. With only three rounds to go, both teams are well clear of the third placed team, Hornby (61), Sumner, under the drmustances, would hold the advantage as it was playing in its home ground. However Merivale-Papanui was in a good position at the close of play, having made 179 for five declared and taking two Sumner wickets for only 14 runs. For Merivale-Papanui, N. Davison batted well for 69. At Waltham Park, the home team batted first, and a good second wicket partnership of 112 by W. Black (78), and Noel Clark (44), set the foundation of a good score of 193 for seven declared. In reply Heathcote lad lost two wickets for 74 runs. At Burnside Park the home side was dismissed for 125, B. Malden top scoring with 58. Hornby at stumps had declared with nine down for 164. R. Wilson scoring 69.
