Security plans
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 10. The Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) said today the Indonesian Embassy in Wellington had been informed of the New Zealand Anns Regulations and that the security of President Suharto was a matter for the New Zealand police. Mr Marshall said this in reply to a telegram from the Campaign Against Repression in Indonesia.
The campaign sent the telegram to Mr Marshall on Monday night, asking that the President’s armed bodyguard of 10 not be allowed into the country because of possible danger to campaign members from “trigger-happy” guards. President Suharto arrived with his full bodyguard of 10, five bodyguards and five security officers. The New Zealand police did not comment on the size of the President’s bodyguard. They were concerned with their own security arrangements.
