Death weapon for sale

(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright i LONDON, February 10. The heavy wooden Tongan club that killed the British (explorer. Captain Cook, on a Hawaiian island in 1779 will be sold at Christie’s on March 27. The 36J inch, ornately-car-ved club will be auctioned with a letter written by Sir Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied Cook aboard the Endeavour when he discovered Australia in 1770.

“A Tongan club of this vintage. but with no historical importance, would probably realise between £5O and £7O, a spokesman for Christie’s said yesterday. “But this particular club presents an xfactor we can’t compute. It is of well-established pedigree and of considerable historical interest.”
