New Year party

The biggest New Year’s Eve party in Christchurch will be at Selwyn Street tomorrow evening, when Mr R. H. Stillwell will hold his seventeenth New Year show at his "Garden of Goodwill.”

Mr Stillwell regularly decorates his home for Christmas and New Year, and often for other celebrations, and between 2000 and 3000 people usually cluster round his home on December 31.

At midnight Father Christmas will hand over to Mr Stillwell to usher in the 1972 year and the crowd will join: in “Auld Lang Syne,” per-' haps to the accompaniment of a pipe band, but certainly to the sound of crackers, of which Mr Stillwell has laid in a good stock to ensure that 1971 goes with a bang. Since he opened his display on December 18 about 6000 visitors have been to his home to see the decorations and his working toys.
