FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation.—A depression in the Tasman Sea is moving south and its associated rain band should move east across much of the country during the day; an anticyclone to the east of the North Island will move only slowly east. Forecast: Canterbury.—Fresh and gusty north-east winds; rain in the west, spreading to the coast during the morning, but clearing again in the afternoon; very warm temperatures during the afternoon once the skies clear. Marlborough.—Fresh northerly winds, strong about Cook Strait and the Kaikoura coast; rain at first this morning and becoming heavy for a time in the middle of the day, but clearing from the west in the afternoon; continuing warm and humid. Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong northerlies; some heavy rain likely, but clearing to scattered showers during the morning, the winds decreasing and turning to the north-west; continuing warm and humid. Outlook.—Scattered showers in Buller and Westland and the Alps, elsewhere mainly fine and warm.
