Medical service busy
The St John Ambulance Association’s emergency doctor and dentist referral service was busy yesterday with an unusually large number of calls for medical attention. Twenty-eight requests were made for a dentist, 22 of them in the morning, white 89 persons wanted a doctor.
Advice on how to treat sunburn, and bee and wasp stings, was given by the association to several callers. . A spokesman said that the number of requests had risen considerably from Monday’s figures. “The effects of the rich Christmas food are beginning to tell,” he said. dentist were busy, the Urgent Dispensary in New Regent Street reported more staff than customers in the shop when it opened at 9.30 a.m. A total of about 500 persons were served, 200 less than Monday. Five staff had been employed to cope with the expected rush—which had not eventuated, largely because New Brighton chemists had been open, a staff member I said.
