Canterbury successful With .even performance points and 10 for an outright win, Can. terbury took an early lead in the Brabln Cup tournament which ended its second day at Bagley Oval yesterday. Wellington could not got on top of the Canterbury bowling and it scored 165—in its second innings after making 112 In its first. This left Canterbury, which had scored 225 in its first innings, 53 to win. Canterbury reached this with little difficulty. Against Otago, Auckland in its second innings fared much better than in its first innings, and finished with 276 for eight declared, J. Wiltshire was unfortunate to be caught on 98 after skying a hook to square leg. This is the best score in the tournament so far. In its second innings, Otago scored 135 chasing a deficit of 226. Otago did not look like overhauling the score. Scores:— Wellington 112 and 165 (C. Jacobson 74, B.W. CederwaU 31), Canterbury 225 and S3/2 (D. Dempsey 32). _ Auckland 101 and 276/8 dec. (J. Wiltshire 98, P. Whltcombe 49, T. Hill 41; D. Watson 3/52). Otago 151 and 133 (C. Graham 34 not out; G. Troupe 3/16).
