Brandt in U.S. for talks

(N.Z.P.A.-Reut er—Copyright) KEY BISCAYNE (Florida),

December 28.

President Nixon and Chancellor Willy Brandt of West Germany will meet in Florida today to plan strategy for improving East-West relations without damaging the Western Alliance.

Their goal during two days of talks at the President’s winter villa overlooking Biscayne Bay is to harmonise their policies aimed at eliminating the last vestiges of the Second World War and the Cold War that followed it Officials described Ameri-can-German relations as being as sunny as the weathei that greeted Mr Brandt on his arrival in Florida yesterday for the talks and a family holiday. They said that no dramatic announcements or agreements will emerge from the meeting, the

fourth Mr Nixon has held with Western leaders this month.

Their talks are expected to result in mutual assurances that their separate diplomatic overtures to the Soviet Union will not harm each other's interests or those of the Atlantic partnership in general.
