Mt Sefton climbed
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 27. The four Auckland men who climbed the east face of Mount Sefton (10,359 ft on Christmas Day are A. Parton, D. Massam, B. Duncan and J. Tobin. They returned to the Hermitage area at 3 p.m. today by way of the Copland Pass, after spending the night in the Douglas Rock hut, on the west side of the mountain. A Mount Cook National Park ranger, Mr M. Andrews, said the party had no major difficulties, apart from soft snow. : The Japanese team which climbed the buttress of Mount Darwin (9715 ft on Christmas Day is now back in the Tasman Saddle hut. The Japanese took a very direct line compared with previous routes up to the 2500 ft buttress, Mr Andrews said. About 70 climbers are in the region, either at Mt Cook or in the high huts along the main divide. Apart from some high cloud, the weather today was fine.
