Bus concession cards

Sir, —In today’s issue of “The Press” the general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell), gave a non-answer to “P. E. Granite’s” request. So I shall ask Mr Fardell why all women over 60, but not all men over 60, qualify for half fares. To say that this is in accord with other centres is quite irrelevant to the question asked. Why in Christchurch? was the question.— Yours, etc., M. O’NEILL. December 2, 1971. [Mr J. F. Fardell, general manager of the Transport Board, replies: “The board, when widening the availability of pensioners’ concession cards, adopted the concessions which are in accord with those granted elsewhere, and the question of all women over 60 qualifying is basically due to the fact that women retire from work at 60, compared with men at 65.”]
