In search of better pork
(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 14.
Agricultural research workers in Britain are trying to breed a multi-racial pig, seeking to combine the best points of three national strains to increase weight, improve shape, and produce lean meat quickly. A three-year research study at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, is aimed at boosting exports to the Common Market by producing an exceptional pig by cross-breeding Belgian, American and British stock. If the experiment is successful, Newcastle housewives will cook the new pig any way they like, to compare it with ordinary pork.
