Bounty is for live cats

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. The chairman of the Mangakino Town Committee (Mr V. G. Skilton) has denied a Press Association report that the committee will pay a bounty to a hunter for cat heads.

The report said the hunter would be paid 50c per head to rid the town of its stray cats.

“There isn’t any question of cutting cats’ heads off,” Mr Skilton said. A member of the county staff would catch the stray cats with a net and they would be “painlessly destroyed” by a veterinary surgeon, he said. The bounty of 50c per head [would be paid for live cats.
