No share of tax

Midland Coach Lines, Ltd, asked the Christchurch City Council last evening for assistance from the petroleum tax fund; but was refused.

The company said that before the Local Authorities (Petroleum Tax) Act was passed the Government made grants to urban passenger services to the extent of 200 per cent of heavy traffic fees on vehicles used on the services.

The grant ceased on March 31, and with the withdrawal of the assistance the companies and its subsidiaries were worse off to the extent of more than $9300 a year.
