Man stole $11,803

(N.Z. Press Association) [INVERCARGILL, Dec. 12. A man pleaded guilty in the Invercargill Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to stealing $11,803 from Kaiser Engineers, Ltd, at Tiwai Point. He is James Alfred Clarke, aged 39, employed as a clerk by Kaiser Engineers, who was charged with theft as a servant.

Clarke told police that he “could not help himself” where money was concerned, as he was a compulsive gambler and bet heavily on horse-racing. Mr T. G. Maxwell, S.M., convicted Clarke and remanded him on bail to December 15 for a probation report and sentence.
