Boat safety appeal

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. The next few weeks will see more small craft in New Zealand than ever before, said the Minister of Marine (Mr McCready in an appeal for care and commonsense in boating. Mr McCready said New Zealand’s waters were still not congested by pleasure craft, but more and more such craft, many of them highly powered, appeared each year. The alternative to more stringent control was for boat users to use care and commonsense at all times.

The small boat owner could easily get good advice from the Marine Department and from boating clubs. “Unfortunately all the help that is available from these sources and the excellent procedures they lay down can be disregarded when the irresponsible, or the exhibitionists take control,” the Minister said.
