No verdict on Negro leader (N.t. Press Assn. —Copyright! OAKLAND (California), Dec. 12. A second mistrial has been declared in the trial for manslaughter of the Black Panther leader Huey Newton in the death of an Oakland policeman in 1967. Earlier the jury had asked to rehear testimony from doctors on the possibility that the Black Panther leader may have been unconscious when a policeman was shot dead four years ago. Newton, aged 29, who helped found the Black Panther party, was accused of killing an Oakland police officer, John Frey, in October, 1967. He alleged that he was innocent and had fallen unconscious with a stomach wound and that another policeman shot Mr Frey by mistake!
