Dinner at league

The Canterbury League of Mothers concluded its twenty-first anniversary celebrations with a dinner at the Horticultural Hall recently. More than 300 members and guests attended the dinner; among them was Mrs M. A. Smith, who formed the first Canterbury branch, St Albans.

Specially invited guests included the Mayoress (Mrs Alexia Pickering), and three former mayoresses, Mrs Hardy Cookson, Mrs R. N. Macfarlane, and Lady Manning. Two representatives from the recently formed Mid-South Island province (which reaches from Timaru to Twizel) also were present.

It was an informal evening, with toasts to national founders, past provincial, officers, and the present executive. Items were given by Mr G. Edgar, Mr Trevor Moore, and Mrs D. A. Cherry.
