Snowmen
Children will adore these Snowmen made from a yeast dough. To make 12 men you need: i cup tepid water 1 packet yeast 34 cups flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons grated nutmeg 2 eggs i cup softened butter Currants Method: Dissolve the yeast in the tepid water. Add half of the sifted flour, sugar, salt, nutmeg, beaten eggs and butter and beat
for two minutes with an electric beater or by hand with a wooden spoon—vigorously, scraping the sides of bowl frequently. Add remaining flour and beat again until mixture is smooth. Cover with cloth and leave to rise until doubled in bulk (about three quarters of an hour) in warm place or standing over hot water. Stir down by beating 25 strokes with wooden spoon and turn on to a lightly floured board, kneading lightly and swiftly. Divide dough into twelve equal portions. Use half of each piece of dough
to form into an o».i about four inches long for body. Use a little more than half of the remaining piece to shape into a round ball for the head. Press currants in deeply for eyes and add a tiny piece for nose. With remaining dough form into two pencil like rolls, two inches long to form arms. Place the completed snowmen three inches apart on a greased baking tray and leave to rise in warm place until doubled in .size (about 45 minutes). Brush with beaten egg and cook in preheated oven (350) for 15 minutes, until browned.
