New Commissioner of Works named
Mr P. F. Reynolds has been appointed District Commissioner of Works at Christchurch to succeed Mr E. E.. Lawrence, who will retire in February. For the last five years Mr Reynolds, who is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, has been assistant director of reading at the head office of the Ministry of Works, Wellington. He was educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, and at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, from which he graduated as Bachelor of Arts. He served in the Royal Engineers during the
Second World War, and took part in the D-day landing in France. He later served in Belgium, the Nttherlands and Germany. Mr Reynolds held several municipal engineering appointments in Britain before joining the New Zealand Ministry of Works in 1951. His first New Zealand appointment was as engineer at Nelson; and from 1955 to 1959 he was senior engineer at Rotorua.
From 1960 to 1962 Mr Reynolds was resident engineer at Dunedin, and from 1962 to 1966 he was again appointed to Rotorua. For short terms, he was also resident engineer at Timaru, and assistant project engineer for the Ministry of Works on the recorfstruction of Nandi Intemational Airport, Fiji.
