LAYMEN AT RETREAT

The first retreat held in the Christchurch diocese for Anglican members of the Standing Committee and executive officers in the Church, was held at Christchurch College during the week-end.

It was held in conjunction with the annual ordination retreat for those becoming priests and deacons. The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) said that laymen in the Church had asked earlier in the year if they could attend a retreat, and they were invited to attend the ordinands’ retreat. A discussion of the role and relevance of the laity was held on Saturday, and on Sunday the men attended the programme for the ordinands.

The men considered the retreat a success and it was possible that some of the leading diocesan officers would be invited to the ordinands’ retreat next year, said Bishop Pyatt.
