Holiday radio
Jim Smith, a former Auckland and Tauranga disc jockey, is flying back from Canada to rejoin the N.Z.B.C. and will take over this year’s special all-night programme on commercial stations over the Christmas - New Year period. Jim Smith was formerly a
popular IZM breakfast session announcer and the compere of the network programme “Pye Sound Scene.” He went overseas to further his experience in radio and television and took a job with CKOV Kelowna, British Columbia, doing a rock show every night. His rock show increased the station ratings ten-fold and he also did an open-line talk show every afternoon.
The first hour of his N.Z.B.C. through - the - night link will be a talk-back 11 p.m. to midnight session. After that the programme will go through from midnight to 5 a.m. each day from Thursday, December 23, to Saturday, January 8.
From IZB, Auckland, Jim Smith’s all-night programme will be heard in Northland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Gisbome, Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston North, and Wellington in North Island, and in the south by N.Z.B.C. late listeners in Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill.
