Steadier tone in more active trading
Trading was a little more active on New, Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, with rises and falls about in balance. However, the index lost almost a point, and fell to 266.48. The overseas list was firm, and reflected the better tone of recent Australian trading.
1.C.1.N.Z. had one of the best gains when the shares sold at 190 c, a rise of sc. Feltex continued its firm trend, and added another 2c in sales at’ 372 c. The improvement among RISES New Zealand
N.Z. Forest Products recovered 2c of recent losses to sell at 325 c, after going as low as 321 c during the day.
other leaders was confirmed to rises of 1c: Wright Stephenson, New Zealand Refrigerating, Repco, Alcon, Woolworths, N.Z.M.C., and Rothmans recovered this amount.
Most falls were also small. South British Insurance lost 2c to 518 c; Winstone and Consolidated Brick lost the same amount.
Haywrights reacted to the chairman’s sober remarks by shedding 2c to 88c, in a Wellington sale. New Zealand Steel fell 2c to 78c.
