Award made by C.A.R.E.

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Canterbury fast bowler, Miss Sue Vaughan, was last night voted “international sportsman of the year” by the Citizens Association for Racial Equality at its annual meeting. Only one vote separated the 19-year-old cricketer and the softball player, John Lowes. Both players have refused places in New Zealand teams to tour South Africa.

The award is presented to the sportsman or woman who C-A.R.E. considers has done most to advance the Olympic ideals of sport for all without discrimination as to race, colour or creed.
