Derailment in yards

Three waggons were involved in a derailment in the Christchurch railway yards on the city side of the Waltham bridge about 6.40 p.m. yesterday. The derailment occurred at a set of points when a line of waggons being shunted was involved in a collision with the end of another line of waggons.

One waggon came to rest leaning against a points switch, jammed firmly into the waggon which had hit it The waggons appeared to have been only slightly damaged.

As main-line traffic could be diverted round the blocked line, no services were affected. The line is expected to be cleared by midday. A derailment near the bridge last Thursday night caused about $lO,OOO worth of damage to points and waggons.
