City’s water radioactive

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, November 26.

The South Australian Minister of He .-.lth (Mr A. J. Shard) says French nuclear tests in the Pacific are responsible for an unusually high level of radioactivity in the Adelaide water supply. Speaking in the South Australian Legislative Council, Mr Shard said that tests for radioactivity had been conducted on reservoir water, rain-water tanks and samples of rainwater collected by the engineering and water supply departments. The samples were collected in the centre of each reservoir, three feet below the surface. Mr Shard said abnormal levels of radioactivity were attributed to the French nuclear tests in the Pacific. The last explosion in the series was on August 1.
