Wandering dogs

When the Thorrington School committee complained to the Heathcote County Council at its meeting last evening that a health hazard ' was created for pupils by ’ dogs wandering across the . school property, the council decided that, while it has no ' control over wandering dogs, . ft would give the names of i owners if the school supplied , the numbers of any dogs that were intercepted. Cr W. N. . Rathbun said dogs were a , problem round shops. There . had been many complaints. The finance committee was ' asked to draft a by-law. JoZts at Reef ton i Six earthquake jolts were felt in Reefton between 8 pun. and 11.30 pm. on Wednesday. Although they caused no damage, the Reefton County Clerk (Mr W. D. Blair), said that the jolts were short and sharp, violent enough to wake those who were asleep.— (PA.) CJbMndftoood P.O. A new non-classified post office, to be called Chisnallwood, will be opened in the Avondale shopping centre, Breezes Road, on Monday. The Acting Chief Postmaster at Christchurch (Mr H. W. Metcalfe) said yesterday that the office would be open between 9 am. and 12 JO pm.; and between 1.30 pm. and 5 p.m. Full post office facilities would be provided. The postmistress, Mrs L. M. Morkane, was previously postmistress at Waipara.
