Under-age betters
Sir, —I would like to know where all the racecourse inspectors are on race days or nights. They are nowhere near the tote. At the last three meetings at Addington there were almost as many school kids in the queues putting bets on as there were adults. On Wednesday night a kid came up to me with $5 wanting me to put two bets on for him. That is not the
first time. The inspectors should wake up.—Yours, etc., HORSE SENSE. November 19, 1971. [Mr G. Tait, Chief Superintendent of Police, replies: “I appreciate the concern of ‘Horse Sense’ and I can assure him that in future the police and racing club officials will be watching for breaches of the Gaming Act”]
