APPLICATION REFUSED
Objections to food shop An application for a ■ change of use of a property i at Mangamaunu from a holi-| day cottage to a “take-away” food shop was refused by, the Kaikoura County Council I recently. The application was I from Leonard James Peter- ■ son and Nancy Shirley Peter-1 son of Christchurch. Objections were received | from Messrs C. W. R. Hands, J. D. Murdoch and Mrs G.i M. Smith, who all objected) on the grounds that a “take-1 away” shop in the area | would constitute a noise and) litter nuisance. In addition I there was a limited water supply in the area which had ) its source on Mr Murdoch’s, property and would not be! adequate to supply a shop. An objection was received; also from the Ministry of] Works on the grounds that| visibility south of the pro-1 posed site was restricted and! at that point the road was' used by motorists for over-) taking slower traffic. The Ministry also objected! that the shop would create a traffic hazard with vehicles arriving at and leaving the shop. To have a shop there would be contrary to the Town and County Planning Act, said the Ministry. | A motion that a conditional use instead of a change of use be granted was lost, and a second motion that the change of use be refused was carried.
